Carrier Park
A 33-acre riverside park in West Asheville on the French Broad River, with greenway access, a picnic shelter, and a wetlands education area open while the west side is closed for Helene recovery.

A Riverside Park in Recovery
Carrier Park sits on the north bank of the French Broad River in West Asheville, 33 acres that include a cycling velodrome, known locally as the "Mellowdrome," that is officially recognized by USA Cycling. Hurricane Helene heavily damaged the park, and the City of Asheville lists the west side, including the lawn bowling court, playground, skating rink, basketball court, sand volleyball courts, and sports field, as closed. Check the city's park page for current status before you go.
What Is Open
The east side of the park is open, including the picnic shelter and the wetlands education area, and the French Broad River Greenway is accessible throughout the park, so it is still an easy add-on to a bike ride or walk.
Nearby
It is a short drive from the River Arts District and from West Asheville's restaurant strip on Haywood Road, including Biscuit Head.
