828 Family Pizzeria is a New York style pizzeria on Merrimon Avenue in Asheville. Its website says the family's pizza tradition goes back to 1933, when a relative began making pizza in Harlem, and that today's cooks follow that family recipe for a thin, crisp crust. The pies are baked in a gas-fired oven, and the site says the sauce and many dressings and toppings are made in-house. Besides pizza, the menu covers salads, pastas, sandwiches, calzones and strombolis, with local craft beer on draft. The pizzeria also takes catering orders for weddings, corporate events and parties, with advance notice asked for groups of 50 or more, and sells e-gift cards.
