Small roasters and independent cafes across Asheville, from the River Arts District to the Grove Arcade.
Asheville is a coffee town, and much of it is roasted locally. We kept this list to shops we could confirm are open in 2026, and we dropped at least one older favorite that is now closed. Check hours before you go.
PennyCup Coffee - River Arts District
PennyCup Coffee is a small-batch roaster, and its River Arts District cafe at 362 Depot Street, open since 2013, is also a roastery. It also has other Asheville locations, including one on Merrimon Avenue in North Asheville.
Ultra Coffeebar - Clingman Avenue
Ultra Coffeebar is at 242 Clingman Avenue in the River Arts District, serving espresso, cold brew on tap, breakfast, and lunch with vegetarian and vegan options and outdoor seating.
Rowan Coffee - Broadway
Rowan Coffee at 66 Broadway Street, opened in 2021, roasts its own beans and is built around a "finding balance" philosophy. It also has a location on Haywood Road in West Asheville.
Summit Coffee - Grove Arcade
Summit Coffee's Grove Arcade shop at 1 Page Avenue is the easy downtown pick, a cafe inside the Grove Arcade. Summit also has a River Arts District shop in Wedge Studios, which reopened in April 2026.
Quick Picks
- Best for a roastery cafe: PennyCup in the RAD
