Best Breweries in Asheville

Asheville earned its "Beer City USA" nickname. These are the breweries and taprooms worth your time now, including a few that came back after Helene.

Asheville is nicknamed "Beer City USA," and the number of breweries per person here is still high. Many are clustered in the South Slope, with more in the River Arts District and scattered around town. This list sticks to places we could confirm are open in 2026. Hours change, so check each brewery's site before you go.

Highland Brewing - Asheville's Original

Highland Brewing calls itself Asheville's original craft brewery. Its taproom at 12 Old Charlotte Highway is large and casual, with food trucks, brewery tours, live music, volleyball, and disc golf. Gaelic Amber Ale is the flagship. See the full guide.

Burial Beer Co. - South Slope and Forestry Camp

Burial Beer Co. has its original South Slope taproom, a Forestry Camp taproom, the Eulogy music venue, and a rooftop bar. Its Burnpile festival is held each fall, so check Burial's site for the next date. See the Burial guide.

Wicked Weed - Brew Pub and Funkatorium

Wicked Weed lists a Brew Pub at 91 Biltmore Avenue, the Funkatorium sour taproom at 147 Coxe Avenue, and Wicked Weed West in Candler. The Funkatorium is a good stop if you like funky, barrel-aged beers. See the Wicked Weed guide.

Hi-Wire Brewing - RAD Beer Garden

Hi-Wire's RAD Beer Garden at 284 Lyman Street has more than 20 beers on draft in a garden built from mural-covered shipping containers, and it is dog and kid friendly. See the Hi-Wire guide.

Green Man Brewery - Two Taprooms on Buxton Avenue

Green Man Brewery, established in 1997, runs two taprooms on Buxton Avenue: Green Mansion and Dirty Jack's. Its English-style IPA has been on tap for a long time.

Asheville Brewing Company - Beer and Pizza

Asheville Brewing Company opened in 1998 as a pizza place, second-run movie theater, and brewpub, and its Coxe Avenue location is on the South Slope. It is a good pick with a group that wants both beer and pizza.

Twin Leaf Brewery - Coxe Avenue

Twin Leaf Brewery is another South Slope taproom on Coxe Avenue, close enough to hit in a single loop with Asheville Brewing and the Funkatorium.

Worth the Drive

12 Bones Smokehouse and Brewing is at 2350 Hendersonville Road in Arden. Sierra Nevada's Mills River taproom pours around two dozen beers with a farm-to-table menu.
