Craggy Gardens
A high-elevation Blue Ridge Parkway stop north of Asheville with trails, mountain views, and rhododendron-covered balds.

Views Without a Long Hike
Craggy Gardens sits on the Blue Ridge Parkway about 20 miles north of Asheville, and it is known for high-elevation heath balds covered in rhododendron. The bloom usually peaks in June, but the views and cool air are worth the drive most of the year.
Status After Helene
The Parkway through the Craggy Gardens area (mileposts 364.5 to 375.7) is listed as open by the National Park Service, and the Craggy Gardens trail system is open. The Craggy Gardens Picnic Area is closed for Helene-related repairs and is listed as closed by the National Park Service, so plan to eat elsewhere. Conditions can change, so check the Parkway road status page before you drive up.
