Neighborhood Guide
Montford

About Montford
Montford is one of Asheville's oldest and best-preserved residential areas, a historic district just north of downtown lined with large Victorian, Queen Anne, and Colonial Revival homes. Many of the grandest houses have become bed-and-breakfast inns, which makes it a popular place to stay if you want a quieter base that is still close to downtown.
Walk the Architecture
The best way to see Montford is on foot. Park and stroll along Montford Avenue and the side streets to see the porches, turrets, and gardens. It is a five to ten minute drive or a longer uphill walk from downtown Asheville.
Outdoor Shakespeare
Explore Asheville lists the Montford Park Players as North Carolina's longest-running Shakespeare festival. Check their schedule before you plan a visit, since performances are seasonal.
Nearby
The Thomas Wolfe Memorial and Asheville Art Museum are a few minutes away, and North Asheville starts a bit farther north.
