A three-day plan for a first visit to Asheville that covers downtown, Biltmore, the River Arts District, and the Blue Ridge Parkway, with 2026 notes on what has reopened after Helene.
Asheville packs a lot into a small mountain city: a walkable downtown, a famous estate, a district full of working artists, more breweries than you can visit in one trip, and the Blue Ridge Parkway a few minutes away. Hurricane Helene hit the area hard in September 2024, and some places are still rebuilding, so this plan sticks to places we confirmed are open in 2026. Hours and prices change, so check each place's website before you go.
Friday: Downtown and a Show
Start at Pack Square Park and the Asheville Art Museum, then walk to the Grove Arcade, a 1928 landmark of local shops. The Thomas Wolfe Memorial is a short walk if you like literary history.
For dinner, book Cúrate for Spanish tapas or Chestnut for creative Southern food, both on Biltmore Avenue. Then catch a show at The Orange Peel a few blocks away. See our events calendar and date night list.
Saturday: Biltmore, Then the River Arts District
Give Biltmore Estate a morning or more. Buy tickets ahead on Biltmore's site, since prices vary by date. In the afternoon, head to the River Arts District, which flooded during Helene and has been rebuilding, and visit the studios that are open. The Hi-Wire RAD Beer Garden is a good stop, and All Souls Pizza makes a casual dinner. Check the district's event calendar for Second Saturday strolls and RADfest in November.
Sunday: The Blue Ridge Parkway
Start with breakfast at Biscuit Head or Early Girl Eatery. Then drive the Blue Ridge Parkway: the Folk Art Center at milepost 382, then Craggy Gardens, and Mount Mitchell if you have time. Sections north of Mount Mitchell are closed, so check the NPS status page before you go. Our Parkway guide has details.
If You Have a Fourth Day
Do the South Slope brewery loop, or head out to Black Mountain or the North Carolina Arboretum. See our brewery guide to plan.
